Free Tax Prep! Tax Center Open 4th Year!
Posted by crpic on March 6, 2014
CRPIC’s free Tax Center to help low and moderate income families file their federal and MA state taxes opened in January for its 4th season! Last year we helped over 300 families and we are hoping to serve even more this year. The Tax Center is part of the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program created to help people file their taxes correctly and for free. Our preparers are all IRS-certified to ensure your taxes are done right and you get the maximum refund allowed.
The Tax Center is partially funded by United Way and is focused on boosting refunds and making sure tax filers are taking full advantage of the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), Child and Dependent Care credits, Child Tax credits, Education, and Retirement credits. We also check for the “Circuit Breaker” credit for MA property owners/renters 65 years old and over, and Energy Efficiency credits for eligible MA homeowners.
This year we also have dedicated computers to help you file your taxes yourself. Our volunteers can get you started and answer questions along the way. If you have a simple return, this is a good option for you.
The Tax Center is open 4-8 pm on Thursdays and 10am-6pm on Fridays & Saturdays at 154 Moody Street in downtown Waltham. Appointments and walk-ins are welcome. For more information on what you need to bring and to make an appointment call 781-891-9559, x206.
